[origin: EP0577943A1] Two stacking tables (1, 2) are provided and these are followed by two can-body forming stations (5, 6) which, from the sheets stacked on the stacking table, form cylindrical can bodies. These can bodies are then delivered along the feed axis (50) to the welding station, which welds the longitudinal seam of the can. By virtue of the fact that two stacking tables and two can-body forming stations are provided, these elements can operate at half the rate of the welding station. This allows welding to be carried out at a high rate while maintaining reliable feeding of the can bodies. <IMAGE>
