Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0578118A1] In the case of a plug contact element (12) for cable plug connectors (10), an axial blind hole (26) and a slot (27) (which is incorporated in the hole wall (28) and originates from the end on the connection side) are provided in the end part (25) on the connection side. The length of the slot (27) is less than that of the blind hole (26) and it has a guide section (29), on the connection side, with a cutting zone (30) as well as an insulation-piercing terminal section (31) adjacent thereto, the width of the guide section (29) corresponding approximately to the external diameter of the insulated cable wire (17), and the width of the insulation-piercing terminal section (31) being smaller than the diameter of the electrically conductive core (16) of the cable wire (17). In consequence, a series of advantages is achieved in an extremely simple and cost-effective manner: - contact is made between the plug contact elements (12) and the cable wires (17), in a manner which is comparably as good as soldering, - a high level of strain relief, - direct extrusion coating is possible without any additional attachment measures, - no short-circuits or changes to the specified air gaps and leakage paths resulting from stray graded-cable wires and - it is possible to arrange the plug contact elements in a very confined space in accordance with any desired pole patterns. <IMAGE>
