The invention relates to a cooling device for a motor car engine. r e device comprises a heat exchanger (14) through which a cooling fluid (coolant) can run, and which can be swept by a flow of air, at least one means (26, 30) for controlling the flow rate of the flow of air sweeping the heat exchanger, this control means having several different states, first sensing means (50) capable of providing a first numerical quantity which represents the speed of the vehicle, second sensor means (44, 46, 48) capable of providing a second numerical quantity representing the flow rate of the cooling fluid running through the heat exchanger, and means (CMD) for commanding the said control means depending on the first and second quantities, these command means operating according to two different functions, depending on whether the flow rate of cooling fluid is decreasing or increasing. L'invention concerne un dispositif de refroidissement pour un moteur de véhicule automobile. Le dispositif comprend un échangeur de chaleur (14) propre à être parcouru par un fluide de refroidissement et à être balayé par un flux d'air, au moins un moyen (26,30) de contrôle du débit du flux d'air balayant l'échangeur de chaleur, ce moyen de contrôle ayant plusieurs états différents, de premiers moyens capteurs (50) propres à fournir une première grandeur numérique représentative de la vitesse du véhicule, des seconds moyens capteurs (44,46,48) propres à fournir une seconde grandeur numérique représentative du débit du fluide de refroidissement parcourant l'échangeur de chaleur et des moyens de commande (CMD) desdits moyens de contrôle en fonction des première et seconde grandeurs, ces moyens de commande opérant selon deux fonctions différentes, selon que le débit de fluide de refroidissement est en diminution ou en augmentation.
