In a UV excimer emitting device, the turn-on behaviour (triggering behaviour, ignition behaviour) when it is initially turned on and in the event of relatively long pauses in operation is improved in that means of local field distortion are provided in the discharge space. Bei einem UV-Excimerstrahler wird das Zündverhalten beim ersten Zünden bzw. längeren Betriebspausen dadurch verbessert, dass dass im Entladungsraum Mittel zur lokalen Feldverzerrung vorgesehen sind. Diese Mittel können entweder gezielt angebrachte lokale Verengungen (12) oder ein Störkörper (13) aus Aluminium- oder Titanoxid sein.
