Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0579214A1] In the grinding of brown coal to fine coal, involving initial drying of the coal at 70-85 deg.C, the dried coal is ground in an air flow roller miller, through which a cold gas (esp. cold and/or ambient air) is passed to cool the coal particles from 70-85 deg.C to below 60 deg.C.. A rotating fluidised zone of cold gas and brown coal particles is produced in the outer annular space of the mill which contains a grinding table (2), grinding rollers (3) and a blade ring (17). Cooling of the coal particles is controlled by the inflow velocity (esp. 40-80 m/sec.) and/or the temp. of the cold gas (18). The cold gas and the coal particles form a gas/dust mixt. which is fed to a classifier, esp. integrated in the mill.
