Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0579575A1] The driving piston (2) of the gun slides in a guide cylinder (1) with a cartridge chamber (5) in the end wall (3). The passage (4) from the cartridge chamber opens into a dish-shaped recess (7) facing the piston. In the top of the piston is a ring shaped impression (10) whose outer diameter is approx. twice that of the semi-circular generating section of the impression. The space enclosed by the recess (7) and impression (10) compels unburnt powder to circulate backwards towards the hot zone of the end wall (3). This allows further combustion to take place and prevents contamination of the gun mechanism by unburnt powder.
