[origin: EP0580017A1] A detonating system for large-calibre propulsion charges, for example artillery ammunition, is intended to be completely combustible, to be precise both in the case of a single-element munition (35) and in the case of a multi-element munition (2) which is split into modules (1, 30). A further requirement for the detonating system is a short detonation delay time in the order of magnitude of 5 to 10 ms. As a rule, when low-pressure detonating systems are used, considerably longer delay times occur, up to several hundred ms. A major cause of this is the low burning rate of the untamped detonating charge. In order to improve this behaviour, a low-pressure detonating system is proposed, in the case of which the detonating charge is designed as a combination of pellets (10.1) with a thin coating in the form of a detonating mixture (12) having a suitably short conversion time, and these pellets (10.1) surround an empty supporting tube (20) within a low-pressure tube (15). <IMAGE>
