[origin: EP0580093A1] The invention describes single- or multilayer, biaxially oriented films having an overall thickness of from 0.05 to 500 mu m, containing a copolyester which contains, as dicarboxylic acid-derived recurring unit, at least one unit of the formula <IMAGE> where this recurring unit makes up at least 25 mol% of the dicarboxylic acid-derived recurring units present in the copolyester. The invention furthermore relates to a biaxially oriented film in which the copolyester contains 10 mol% of terephthalate-derived recurring units, the content of recurring units of the formula (ii) is at least 5 mol%. Preference is given to biaxially oriented films built up from dicarboxylic acid-derived recurring units of the formulae (ii) and (I) <IMAGE>
