[origin: EP0580549A1] The top-comb unit (4) possesses lamellar, parallel, elongate elements (11) which are arranged in a rectilinear row and which have comb teeth (10) at the lower end. Each element (11) has a punched-in perforation, such that the perforations of all the elements (11) together form a chamber (20) which extends over the length of the row. Air-feed passages extend from the chamber (20) and are formed by channels (21) in the side faces of the elements (11). When the combing machine is in operation, compressed-air pulses are fed to the chamber (20), so that compressed-air pulses are blown onto the comb teeth (10) by means of the channels (21), in order to clean the combed teeth (10). Together with the chamber (20) and the channels (12), the top-comb unit (4) is of very simple construction and can be produced cheaply. The lamellar elements (11) are held in the row by carrier rods (12, 13) which extend through orifices in the elements (11) over the entire length of the row of elements. <IMAGE>
