[origin: EP0581051A1] The proposed multi-layer headbox for a papermaking machine or the like is constructed in such a way that it can produce a wide stream, comprising at least three individual streams (5, 5', 5''). The individual streams are brought towards one another in separate channels (3, 3', 3''), emerge from the headbox and subsequently unite to form one complete wide stream. According to the invention, the individual channels are designed such that streams lying further to the outside can be deflected after leaving the channel to such an extent that they meet the part-stream lying further inwards only at a very small angle. As a result, separations during deflecting of the part-streams and undesired transverse intermixings during their bringing together are prevented. <IMAGE>
