Abstract (en)
The subject of the invention are exhaust gas catalytic converters for internal combustion engines. At least two, or better three carrier bodies (5.1, 5.3) with a honeycomb structure, the walls of which are coated with a catalytically active precious metal, are supported in a metal housing (1) with inlet taper (2) and outlet taper (3) with the aid of a swell matting (4). The length of each individual carrier body (5.1, 5.3) is between 1 and 2 inches. The carrier bodies (5.1, 5.3) are assembled without any gap. Adjacent carrier bodies (5.1, 5.3) are either linearly offset or twisted, so that the partial exhaust flows leaving the honeycomb of the one carrier body (5.1, 5.3) strike the honeycomb walls of the succeeding carrier body (5.3, 5.1). <IMAGE>

Gegenstand der Erfindung sind Abgaskatalysatoren für Verbrennungsmotoren. In einem Metallgehäuse (1) mit Eingangskonus (2) und Ausgangskonus (3) sind wenigstens zwei, besser drei Trägerkörper (5.1, 5.3) mit einer Wabenstruktur, deren Wände mit katalytisch aktivem Edelmetall beschichtet sind, unter Zuhilfenahme einer Quellmatte (4) gelagert. Die Länge jedes einzelnen Trägerkörpers (5.1, 5.3) liegt zwischen 1 und 2 Zoll. Die Trägerkörper (5.1, 5.3) werden ohne Abstand montiert. Benachbarte Trägerkörper (5.1, 5.3) sind entweder linear versetzt oder verdreht, so daß die Abgasteilströme, die die Waben des einen Trägerkörpers (5.1, 5.3) verlassen, auf die Wabenwände des nachfolgenden Trägerkörpers (5.3, 5.1) treffen. <IMAGE>
