Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0581403A2] A method for economical thermal transfer printing, having a lower ribbon speed of the ink ribbon than the transporting speed of the recording medium, in which during the printing operation ink-ribbon control is carried out in such a way that the saving factor S, formed from the quotient of the path length of the recording medium travelled in total SIGMA (b + x) and the length of the ink ribbon required in total SIGMA (c + p), is increased by a factor m in dependence on printing image interruptions after a particular duration. The factor m results from the interruption of the forward movement and subsequent defined backward movement of the ink ribbon which corresponds to the sum of the path corresponding to the holding time and the path corresponding to the start-up time and lies between a minimum value of one and a maximum value which is determined by the sum of the ratios, increased additively in each case by one, of ribbon lengths p not required during printing to the required ribbon lengths c. <IMAGE>
