[origin: EP0582136A1] A device is described for removing tobacco particles from a strand conveyor (3) of a cigarette strand machine with the transfer of a tobacco strand from the strand conveyor to a formatting device (4), which has a base body (19) for insertion into the strand machine in the strand intake region of the formatting device (4) and a removal edge (26) which can be positioned in a removal position relative to the strand conveyor (3). The removal edge (26) is coated, at least in its region which interacts with the strand conveyor (3) in the removal of the tobacco particles, with a coating (27) of polycrystalline diamond. The coating of the removal device with polycrystalline diamond offers the advantage of a longer service life and, because of longer intervals between replacements of the removal device, an increased cost-effectiveness of the machine. <IMAGE>
