Process for upgrading crude benzene (1), which arises during the coking of materials containing carbon, in particular coal, by means of catalytic pre-hydrogenation and main hydrogenation under pressure at increased temperatures in the presence of hydrogen, in which the crude benzene is subjected to distillation in vacuo (2) at temperatures of < 100 DEG C for separation into a fraction (3) containing benzene and a fraction (4) containing styrene, the fraction containing benzene is subjected to the main hydrogenation (8), the fraction containing styrene is subjected to a pre-hydrogenation (15) at a temperature of not more than 280 DEG C to form an initial product containing aromatic compounds, the heating of the fraction containing styrene to the hydrogenation temperature taking place in hot circulation (14) with prehydrated product, and the initial product containing aromatic compounds is subsequently subjected to the main hydrogenation (20). <IMAGE>

Verfahren zur Aufbereitung von Rohbenzol (1), das bei der Verkokung kohlenstoffhaltiger Materialien, insbesondere von Kohle, anfällt, mittels katalytischer Vor- und Haupthydrierung unter Druck bei erhöhten Temperaturen in Gegenwart von Wasserstoff, bei dem das Rohbenzol einer Destillation unter Vakuum (2) bei Temperaturen von < 100° C zur Auftrennung in eine benzolhaltige (3) und eine styrolhaltige Fraktion (4) unterworfen wird, die benzolhaltige Fraktion der Haupthydrierung (8) unterworfen wird, die styrolhaltige Fraktion bei einer Temperatur von nicht mehr als 280° C einer Vorhydrierung (15) zu einem aromatenhaltigen Vorprodukt unterworfen wird, wobei die Aufheizung der styrolhaltigen Fraktion auf Hydriertemperatur im Heißumlauf (14) mit vorhydriertem Produkt erfolgt und anschließend das aromatenhaltige Vorprodukt der Haupthydrierung (20) unterworfen wird. <IMAGE>
