Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0582778A1] To permit the crushing with a small amount of force of an empty can (3) which is open at the top and has a bottom (18), provision has been made for two force transmission elements (11, 13), which are connected to an actuating element (10), and a support (2) to be present, the said support (2) supporting a can (3) in the region of a circumferential line around its exterior. The first force transmission element (13) can be moved along a working path (15) towards the operating region (4) of the support (2) and/or away from the latter. During an advancing movement, it exerts a diametrical force component acts externally on the outside surface of a can (3) held by the support (2). The second force transmission element (11) reciprocates simultaneously or with some delay along a second path (16). During an advancing movement, it exerts a moment which is directed from outside towards the can floor (18) and towards the supported circumferential region, in such a way that the can floor (18) is pivoted about the buckling indentation which was created by the first element (13) in the outside surface of the can. <IMAGE>
