[origin: EP0583622A1] A printer for producing printed images from columns lying transversely to the transporting direction, having two identical thermal transfer print heads (2, 3) which produce the columns of the printed image in each case with the mutual spacing of an integral multiple of a raster division, and at which a recording medium (4) can be printed in a raster-like manner during a transporting movement, and which, being controlled by a control device (14, 15), print two raster images, which are offset relative to one another by a raster division in the transporting direction, in each case with a column spacing equal to twice the raster division. <IMAGE>
