Abstract (en)
In a pipe bending machine (10), a pipe is clamped by a pipe clamping head (16) which is rotatable about the axis of the pipe. A bending head (14) produces a series of bends in the pipe, without itself rotating about the pipe axis. The clamping head (16) includes a gear wheel (19), slotted (21) to receive the pipe, which carries a pair of jaws (24, 25) of which one (25) is pivotally mounted, so as to flop open to receive the pipe when a supporting movable body part (18) is separated from a fixed body part (17). The fixed and movable parts (17, 18) together define a circular track on which the jaw assembly (24, 25) rotates on roller bearings when driven by the gear wheel (19) and a cooperating worm (20) mounted in the fixed part (17). The apparatus does not have rotating bending heads and hence is less subject to wear and damage than a conventional machine.
