[origin: EP0585196A1] In a casing (1) of a carding machine, which is connected to a suck-up device (15), it is proposed to select the effective area of the suction orifices (9, 10) at at least 0.5 m<2>. As a result, the suction air is sucked up at a substantially lower flow velocity and therefore the suspended particles and fibre particles occurring in a spinning mill are sucked into the suck-up device (15) in a much lower proportion, so that, in many instances, there is no need for an exact sealing off of the casing (1) and a filter cloth at the suction orifices (9, 10). <IMAGE>
