Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0585676A2] The invention relates to a franking machine with an electrothermal printing device, by means of which postage and/or picture prints are printed onto postal material, guided past it at a predetermined speed, by a transfer of ink particles from a carrier ribbon (114) in a manner distributed according to the particular picture, which carrier ribbon (114) is heated according to the picture distribution by means of a thermal printing head (110) and at the same time is guided past the printing device, a counterpressure element (116) being located opposite the thermal printing head (110). Provided as a counterpressure element is a counterpressure roller (116) which is movable perpendicularly to the printing surface and which is mounted resiliently on a shaft (130), arranged parallel to the printing strip (112) of the thermal printing head (110), in such a way that its surface of contact with the postal material can assume different angles to the printing strip (112) in a plane containing the printing strip (112) and the shaft (130). <IMAGE>
