[origin: WO9221801A1] There is disclosed a method of fixing card clothing (100) to the surface (108) of a carrier cylinder (107) which has a slot (109) in its outer periphery, in which the card clothing comprises an elongate strip of resilient material (101) having opposed ends (102) which abut one another when the clothing is applied around the cylinder (107), wire carding teeth (103) carried by the strip of resilient material (101) and projecting from one side thereof so as to form a substantially uniform distribution of carding teeth throughout the outer periphery of the cylinder (107), and an elongate carrier web (104) secured to the elongate strip of resilient material (101) and having opposed ends (105) which each project longitudinally beyond a respective end (102) of strip (101), and in which the method of assembly comprises: forming the card clothing (100) into a closed loop with the opposed ends (102) of the elongate strip (101) abutting each other, and the opposed ends (105) of the carrier web (104) projecting inwardly of the loop and alongside one another; fitting the opposed ends (105) of the carrier web (104) into an elongate U-shaped clip (106) which extends along at least part of the opposed ends (105); and, fitting the closed loop of card clothing onto the outer periphery (108) of the cylinder (107) following presentation of the leading end of the clip (106) to the entrance to the slot (109) in the cylinder (107) and then pushing the loop of clothing (100) onto the cylinder simultaneously with advancement of the clip (106) along the slot (109). The invention is particularly applicable to the assembly and dis-assembly of card clothing on a knitting roller (120) of a high pile fabric knitting machine.
