[origin: EP0586794A2] The cutting device has a base plate (10) with a mount which projects upwards from it and accommodates a blade (26) in such a way that a cutting edge (28) of the blade (26) projects out of the mount in an accessible manner. In front of the cutting edge (28) there is arranged in a removable manner a covering element which extends over the full length of the said blade (28). Between the covering element and the cutting edge (28) there is situated an intermediate space (72). The covering element bounds, together with the base plate (10) and/or the mount, an insertion gap (70) which is connected to the intermediate space (72). <IMAGE>
