[origin: EP0586864A2] To heat bulk goods to high temperatures, in which the bulk goods are first heated to a desired end temperature and then cooled to a lower, but far above ambient, temperature, the bulk goods are heated by circulated heated gas, such as heated air, and cooled in the same manner. For this purpose, a vessel is provided having an agitator or centrifugal mechanism arranged therein for circulating bulk goods charged therein, which vessel is equipped with a jacket for passing through gas, such as air, serving as heat transport medium. In this case, a pipe system, forming a circuit, is connected to the jacket for circulating and heating the gas serving as heat transport medium. <IMAGE>
