Abstract (en)

[origin: US5419224A] A device for the controlled removal of pieces of waste material is provided. The device has a non-rotatable cylinder shaft having an outer surface; a cylinder jacket having an inner surface and an outer surface and having at least one through-hole extending between the inner surface and the outer surface of the cylinder jacket, the cylinder jacket rotatable around the cylinder shaft; and sealing strips between the outer surface of the cylinder shaft and the inner surface of the cylinder jacket. The outer surface of the cylinder shaft, the inner surface of the cylinder jacket and the sealing means define a pressure chamber and a vacuum chamber, so that upon rotation of the cylinder jacket around the cylinder sleeve the at through-holes alternately connect with the pressure chamber and the vacuum chamber. The waste pieces are created when a pair of knives disposed on the outer surface of the cylinder jacket cut a moving web.
