[origin: WO9221868A1] In a two-stroke engine with a piston (1) movable in a cylinder (2) and a cylinder head (4) fitted thereto and channels (18) in the cylinder which can be opened by upper edge of the piston, the latter being connected to a crankshaft (11) via a connecting rod (9), it is proposed that an exhaust port (5) and a sparking plug chamber which receive a sparking or glow plug (6) or injection nozzle be arranged in the cylinder head (4), the plug chamber communicates with the cylinder chamber and a slide valve (3) secured to the piston in its direction of movement momentarily closes the exhaust port (5) depending on its position.
