[origin: EP0588100A1] The invention relates to a laundry treatment machine, especially a drum-type washing machine, a drum-type drier or a drum-type washer dryer, with functional subassemblies and functional components necessary for laundry treatment, with a frame for receiving the functional subassemblies and functional components, and with visible housing surfaces characterising the appearance of the appliance, such as side walls, a front wall and a lid. In addition, the invention relates to a process for producing such a laundry treatment machine. The latter is intended to offer any freedom of choice as regards its surface design up to its final completion. For this purpose, the frame (5) can be assembled together with the functional subassemblies and functional components as a workable testable base unit (1), the base unit (1) having no visible housing surfaces. <IMAGE>
