[origin: WO9320903A1] In a process for conditioning a string for tennis racquets, the latter is wound on a spool (1) under tension producing an extension of 5 to 15% in the string. To this end, a length of raw string (19) is drawn off a supply drum (20) and its end (6) is secured to the periphery of the spool (1) which is then moved away from the supply drum (20) so that the raw string (19) is drawn off the supply drum (20) to the length to be wound. The length of raw string drawn off is then subjected to tension imparting a predetermined extension whereupon, with the tension maintained, the extended string length (7) is wound on the spool (1) with the latter moved at the same time towards the supply drum (20) and finally the other end of said length of string (7) is secured to the periphery of the spool (1).
