[origin: EP0590177A1] The invention relates to an apparatus for generating shock waves by means of a spark gap, using two electrodes (4,5). During the electrical discharge, low-frequency sound components are generated in addition to the desired shock waves. These sound components have a disturbing effect on the therapy. In order to reduce the low-frequency sound components, provision is made according to the invention for the electrodes (4,5) to be arranged in a sleeve (7) which surrounds these electrodes in a pressure-tight manner. <IMAGE>
