[origin: EP0590715A1] A method is disclosed for the preparation of a photographic silver halide emulsion comprising the steps of precipitation, chemical ripening and spectral sensitization, characterized in that said chemical ripening step and said spectral sensitization step are performed simultaneously and in the presence of an water-soluble metal salt the anion of which can form with a silver cation a salt with a solubility product higher than 10<-7.5>. Improved sensitometric characteristics and aptitude for rapid processing are obtained.
