By means of the device according to the invention, which has a feed means (1), a stack shaft (2) and a tying device (3), a continuous stream of products (U) consisting of paper, especially of those products which are difficult to stack, such as, for example, letter envelopes with content and viewing windows, is processed to form tied stacks. For this purpose, auxiliary stacks (AS) are erected on an auxiliary supporting surface (25) and fall in a controlled way into the stack shaft (2) as individual products. Mit der erfindungsgemässen Vorrichtung, die ein Zuführungsmittel (1), einen Stapelschacht (2) und eine Bindevorrichtung (3) aufweist wird ein kontinuierlicher Strom von Erzeugnissen (U) aus Papier, insbesondere von derartigen Erzeugnissen, die schwer stapelbar sind, wie beispielsweise Briefumschläge mit Inhalt und Sichtfenstern, zu gebundenen Stapeln verarbeitet. Dazu werden auf einer Hilfsauflagefläche (25) Hilfsstapel (HS) erstellt, die in kontrollierterer Weise in den Stapelschacht (2) fallen als einzelne Erzeugnisse. Ein oder mehrere Hilfsstapel (HS) bilden einen Stapel (S), der aus dem Stapelschacht (2) geschoben und in der Bindevorrichtung (3) mindestens einmal zu einem gebundenen Stapel (G) umschlungen wird. <IMAGE>
