[origin: EP0591933A1] The backrest of an office or work chair has a back plate (13), which is mounted on a backrest support (7) so as to be pivotable about a floating shaft (11), and below the back plate a pelvic support plate (17), the upper end of which is articulatedly connected to the back plate (13) and the lower end of which is mounted on the backrest support (7) so as to be displaceable in a guide (19, 21), either freely displaceable or displaced with positive control in dependence on the tilt of the backrest support (7). <IMAGE>
