Abstract (en)
An unvented water heater comprises a tank (10), a cold water inlet (14), a hot water outlet pipe (20) opening into the tank at a location (22) below the minimum water level in the tank, and means for directly or indirectly heating water in the tank. An air space (30) above the water level in the tank accommodates expansion of water in the tank as it is heated. A baffle (40, 140, 240) is positioned adjacent the opening (22) of the outlet pipe (20) to increase the distance from the opening to the free surface (32) of water in the tank. The baffle (40) may be fixed in position (Figures 1 and 2). Alternatively, the baffle (140, 240) may float on the surface of the water (Figures 3 and 4). The presence of the baffle reduces the loss of air from the air space (30) as water is drawn from the tank.
