Method and arrangement for communicating between units supporting the packet mode (1, 2, 3) which are interconnected at the centre of a communications installation by point-to-point links (L2), which are structured physically and governed in terms of time in an identical way, the transmission of a packet between two packet mode-supporting units of the installation involves the sending of a prior request, from the unit wishing to send, to the addressee unit, and the sending, in response, of a corresponding acquiescence from this addressee unit. The communication arrangement constitutes an asynchronous switch of the unpacketed type, in which each packet mode-supporting unit includes a packet communication circuit, to which the point-to-point links terminating at the unit are connected by a switching module. This communication circuit packages into the form of a series of cells each packet to be transmitted to an other packet mode-supporting unit of the installation, and also provides for the reverse packaging. <IMAGE>

Procédé et agencement de communication entre unités supports de mode paquet (1, 2, 3) interconnectées au coeur d'une installation de communication par des liaisons point-à-point (L2) structurées physiquement et régies temporellement de manière identique, la transmission d'un paquet entre deux unités supports de mode paquet de l'installation implique l'envoi d'une requête préalable de l'unité désireuse d'émettre à l'unité destinataire et l'envoi en réponse d'un acquiescement correspondant de cette unité destinataire. L'agencement de communication constitue un commutateur asynchrone de type éclaté où chaque unité support de mode paquet, comporte un circuit de communication de paquets, auquel les liaisons point-à-point aboutissant à l'unité sont reliées par un module de commutation. Ce circuit de communication conditionne sous forme d'une suite de cellules chaque paquet à transmettre vers une autre unité support de mode paquet de l'installation et assure aussi le conditionnement inverse. <IMAGE>
