Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0592365A1] The casting ladle (1) can not only be pivoted, by means of the tilting drive (3) and the tensile element (4), about a fixed tilting axis (6) in order to pour molten metal (1a) into a casting mould (2) or to interrupt the casting operation but the tilting axis (6) can be raised and lowered by a certain amount (h) by means of a lifting drive (11). Lifting and lowering movements of the tilting axis (6) are used to ensure that the tilting movement of the casting ladle (1) takes place approximately about the centre of gravity (S) of the molten metal (1a). Compensating flows and wave movements of the molten metal during the forward and rearward tilting of the casting ladle (1) are thereby prevented in an effective manner and the processes which occur at the beginning and ending of pouring are less complex and can be controlled reliably. The lifting drive (11) and the tilting drive (3) can be used to raise the casting ladle (1) additionally in order to move it further towards the centre of the casting mould during the initial pouring operation while maintaining a certain safety clearance with respect to the casting mould (2). <IMAGE>
