The abseil (rope) brake (10) includes a first flange (14) for supporting a pulley (16) and a runner (26), and an additional braking lever (34) mounted with limited pivoting in the vicinity of the pulley (16) between an inactive unlocking position for a first direction of winding of the rope (12) into the passage space (20), and an active blocking position, in which a wedging (camming) surface (38) of the lever (34) presses the rope (12) against the pulley (16). The lever (34) is pivoted into its active position automatically in the event of incorrect winding of the rope in a second direction which is opposite to the first direction, and in the presence of tension in the rope when the abseil brake (10) is under load. Application: caving, mountaineering, working at great height. <IMAGE>

Le descendeur (10) comporte un premier flasque (14) de support d'une poulie (16) et d'un patin (26), et un levier (34) auxiliaire de freinage monté à pivotement limité au voisinage de la poulie (16) entre une position inactive de déblocage pour un premier sens d'enroulement de la corde (12) dans l'espace (20) de passage, et une position active de blocage, dans laquelle une surface de coincement (38) du levier (34) presse la corde (12) contre la poulie (16). Le pivotement du levier (34) vers la position active est opérée automatiquement en cas d'un enroulement incorrect de la corde selon un deuxième sens opposé au premier sens, et en présence d'une tension sur la corde lorsque le descendeur (10) est en charge. Application: spéléologie, alpinisme, travaux en hauteur. <IMAGE>
