[origin: EP0593799A1] A description is given of a method and a device for the cold deformation of a sheet-metal blank (2') composed of a material with an exponential tensile stress/strain behaviour to give a thin-walled hollow shell (2). The sheet-metal blank (2') is clamped into a clamping device (3) at the circumference and rotated about its centre line (6). The deformation is carried out by a first and a second path-controlled spinning roller (16, 17) acting on opposite sides of the sheet-metal blank (2') and is effected solely by local pressure forces. During this process the relative velocity of the workpiece (2', 2) and the spinning rollers (16, 17) and the force exerted by the spinning rollers on the workpiece are matched to one another in such a way that tensile forces exerted on the workpiece remain below the yield strength of the material. <IMAGE>
