[origin: EP0593800A1] When operating at full load and at the same time normally with the lambda mixture control switched off, in order to avoid lean mixture the mixture control is enabled, even when the internal combustion engine is at full load, as soon as the exhaust gas sensor in stand by mode indicates a lean mixture composition for a period longer than a limit value, even if the temperature condition "engine temperature higher than a threshhold value" (necessary for the actuation of the lambda control) has not yet been fulfilled. <IMAGE>
