Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0595229A2] Shortly before the removal of a finished roll (55) from the main winding point (6), a drive mechanism (16) is coupled to a winding core (8) disposed in a stand-by position (57). Said drive mechanism (16) drives the winding core (8) before the latter is placed on the material web running over the winding drum (2). The winding core (8) continues to be driven until the winding core (8) with material web already wound thereon has been transferred to supporting arms (3) at the main winding point (6). By virtue of the continuous driving of the winding core (8) during a roll change, high-quality rolls (55) can be wound with an extremely wide variety of material webs. <IMAGE>
