[origin: WO9302443A1] An apparatus provides grey scale capability for an electrophoretic information display (10). The electrophoretic information display (10) is an XY addressable display with each XY coordinate indicative of a given column (23) and row (25) and defining a pixel. There are described means coupled to display for impressing upon the display a predetermined digital pattern to cause certain pixels in the display to be energized with respect to other pixels in the display where the combination due to the digital pattern causes a desired grey scale level to appear on a character or on the background of the display.

Appareil qui fournit une capacité d'échelle de gris à un panneau d'affichage par électrophorèse (10). Ledit panneau d'affichage par électrophorèse (10) est un panneau d'affichage adressable XY, chaque groupe XY étant indicateur d'une colonne (23) et d'une rangée (25) données et définissant un pixel. Des dispositifs couplés au panneau d'affichage sont destinés à faire apparaître sur ledit panneau d'affichage une configuration numérique prédéterminée afin d'exciter certains pixels du tableau d'affichage par rapport à d'autre pixels du tableau. La combinaison due à la configuration numérique provoque l'apparition, sur un caractère ou sur le fond du panneau d'affichage, d'un niveau d'échelle de gris désiré.
