Abstract (en)
An image display employing an array of field emission devices (860) each of which, whether individually or in concert with some others of the plurality, provides electron current to an anode (806) having a cathodoluminescent layer (870) and wherein the electron emission is substantially controlled by constant current sources (810, 811, 812, 813) associated therewith and wherein the luminous intensity of selected regions (850, 851, 852, 853, 854) of the cathodoluminescent layer (870) is determined by the duration of the ON state of each controlled current source (810, 811, 812, 813). <IMAGE>
