[origin: EP0597784A1] This line permits, in particular, the recognition and separation of unsold copies to be sorted and those to be destroyed, as well as enabling them to be accounted for. The products (9) are deposited and displaced on a set of conveyors (1 to 7) having speeds which increase from upstream to downstream and they pass under an optical bar-code reader (12). In association with a control assembly (16) containing memorised (stored) data, the products (9) are identified and directed towards one or the other of several exit paths (20, 21, 22) which can correspond, respectively, to unsold copies to be sorted, to unsold copies to be destroyed and to non-identified products. The invention is of interest to press distributing services, publishers, etc., and it applies to newspapers, magazines, books and other publications of all types. <IMAGE>
