In a device for near net shape casting, boundary plates (3) are provided to the side of a feed and solidification region (2) in which the metal melt passes between rollers (1) or strikes a conveyor belt, and an electromagnetic inductor (4) is arranged next to these boundary plates. In order to avoid solidification of the melt on the boundary plates (3) and to prevent the electromagnetic field of the inductor (4) from influencing the metal melt, the boundary plates (3) are composed of an inductively heatable, refractory - ceramic - material which is coupled to the electromagnetic field of the inductor (4). <IMAGE>

Bei einer Einrichtung zum endabmessungsnahen Gießen sind seitlich eines Aufgabe-Erstarrungsbereichs (2), in dem die Metallschmelze zwischen Rollen (1) oder auf ein Transportband trifft, Begrenzungsplatten (3) vorgesehen, neben denen ein elektromagnetischer Induktor (4) angeordnet ist. Um ein Einfrieren der Schmelze an den Begrenzungsplatten (3) zu vermeiden und zu verhindern, daß das elektromagnetische Feld des Induktors (4) die Metallschmelze beeinflußt, bestehen die Begrenzungsplatten (3) aus einem induktiv aufheizbaren, feuerfesten, - keramischen Material, das an das elektromagnetische Feld des Induktors (4) ankoppelt. <IMAGE>
