[origin: EP0598306A2] The invention relates to a chopper for chopping refuse material, in particular household and garden refuse. The chopper contains a housing (3) having a feed chute (4) and a rotor (12) which is rotably mounted between the latter and a discharge opening, is connected to a rotating drive (9) and interacts with a holding element (22). The rotor (12) is constructed so as to be funnel-shaped and has a side wall (14) which is provided with at least one penetration gap and at least one cutting knife (19) and is essentially conically enlarged upwardly and outwardly from a central bottom part (13) connected to the rotating drive (9) towards the feed chute (4). <IMAGE>
