[origin: EP0598679A1] The numbering of sheets of securities, each having N items, comprises a closed circle of numbers having W securities, the number of sheets being a multiple of 100 and the number of items N being divisible by 10. On each sheet, ten adjacent items each form a group of 10 which are given numbers from the same thousands series. In each sequence of 100 sheets, the items located at the same position on the security sheet are numbered with the 100 consecutive numbers of a particular hundreds series and the ten items of a group of ten of each sheet are numbered with numbers of consecutive hundreds series with the same end digits and tens. The items on all subsequent sequences of 100 sheets in each case are given numbers from consecutive thousands series in each case with the same end digits, tens and hundreds for the items located at the same positions on the security sheet. The items belonging to one group of ten of a sequence of 100 sheets are thus given the complete number sequence of a thousands series and the items belonging to the same group of ten of the following sequence of 100 sheets are given the complete number sequence of the following thousands series. <IMAGE>
