[origin: EP0599346A2] The branch terminal (10) according to the invention has a split terminal body which engages around a cable and whose parts can be clamped together, and in which main contacts (20) are arranged, insulated from one another, with teeth (22) for penetrating the insulation of the phase conductors (84). Terminal parts are inserted into the terminal body, are assigned to the main contacts (20) and are used for connection of branch conductors (88), first and second housing halves (12, 14) being provided. A single through-bolt (70) is used as an operating device, passes through the terminal parts, and can be screwed from one housing half (12) into the other housing half (14). Drivers (46, 48) having a predetermined torque load capacity are provided between the through-bolt (70) and the terminal parts. When the through-bolt is tightened, the pairs of terminal parts are initially tightened, making contact with the branch conductors (88), and the housing halves (12, 14) are only then firmly tightened against one another by the through-bolt (70), making contact with the phase conductors (84). <IMAGE>
