[origin: EP0601947A1] For the purpose of improving the quality of the corrosion protection of metal containers (1) intended to be buried, in particular gas tanks, and to avoid them being damaged in the event of impacts while they are being handled and transported, an external protective covering (2) is applied to them, this covering consisting of at least one layer (3) of a mixture of at least one fine filler, such as sand or the like, and of a thermosetting or thermoplastic synthetic material, applied in a thickness of at least three hundred micrometres. <IMAGE>
