[origin: WO9304586A1] The antimicrobial activity of albumin-type protein is described. Albumin-type proteins include 2S albumins, napins, barley trypsin inhibitor, wheat alpha -amylase inhibitor and cereal gliadins. The proteins exhibit a range of antifungal activity, and in addition can potentiate the antifungal activity of thionins. The proteins find commercial application as antifungal or antibacterial agents. Compositions containing an albumin-type protein, or an albumin-type protein and a thionin protein, may be applied externally to a plant, or may be expressed within a plant. Transformed plants will show increased disease resistance.

On décrit l'activité antimicrobienne d'une protéine du type albumine. Les protéines du type albumine comprennent les albumines 2S, les napines, l'inhibiteur du trypsine de l'orge, l'inhibiteur d'alpha-amylase de blé et les gliadines de céréales. Ces protéines présentent une certaine gamme d'activités antifongiques, et peuvent en outre potentialiser l'activité antifongique de thionines. Ces protéines peuvent être utilisées dans le commerce comme agents antifongiques et antibactériens. Des compositions contenant une protéine du type albumine, ou une protéine du type albumine et une thionine, peuvent être appliquées sur l'extérieur d'une plante, ou peuvent être exprimées à l'intérieur d'une plante. Des plantes ainsi transformées font preuve d'une résistance accrue aux maladies.
