[origin: EP0602371A2] A refrigerator has a thermally insulated casing and at least two mutually thermally isolated compartments at different temperatures, of which each is equipped with an evaporator. The compartments are supplied from a common refrigerant compressor with refrigerant which is respectively fed via a valve arrangement, which is controlled by a control unit which also controls the compressor, to one of the evaporators. Temperature sensors arranged in the compartments signal to the control unit the need for refrigerant to be supplied to the respective evaporator. In the refrigerator, the refrigerant located in the evaporator to which refrigerant is applied for refrigerating purposes is fed to a common reservoir which, in the direction of flow of the refrigerant, is situated upstream of the compressor in the respective refrigerant circuit, after which the flow of refrigerant to this evaporator is interrupted. <IMAGE>
