Abstract (en)
A bite indicator, for use in indicating a bite made by a fish on a line (22) of a fishing rod. It comprises an arm (24) which is free to swing upwardly and/or downwardly, and line engagement means (54) which are secured to the arm (24) and which are adapted to engage such a line (22) when the indicator is in use. A slackening or a tightening of the line (22) will cause the line engagement means (54) to drop or rise as the arm (24) swings downwardly or upwardly. Line engagement means (54) are provided having a body (56) which is provided with a channel (57) and a pivotable gate (62) which is pivotable between a closed position in which it extends over the channel (57), to form a closed loop with the said body (56) that surrounds such a line (22) when the bite indicator is in use, and an open position in which such a line (22) is free to move out of the channel (57). The body (56) is so oriented relative to the arm (24) that such a line (22) tends to open the gate (62) after the arm (24) swings to a position in an upward direction beyond a predetermined level. <IMAGE>
