[origin: EP0603562A1] A method and a device for erecting a folding box (11) and for spreading its closing flaps (14 to 17). For this purpose, the device has a transfer apparatus (21), by means of which the folding boxes (11) are drawn off from a magazine (10) and conveyed along a spreading device (30) on a cycloidal curved path and into a conveyor apparatus (20) of a cartoning machine. The spreading device (30) has a plate-shaped spreading element (31) and two spreading elements (33, 34) which project from the latter into the space of movement of the closing flaps (14 to 17) and by means of which the closing flaps (14 to 17) are angled at right angles to the spreading elements (31, 33, 34) in the order of their arrangement in the direction of movement of the folding box (11). <IMAGE>
