[origin: WO9306016A1] Described is a packaging container for food, the container having a deep-drawn tray made of plastic and a lid made of plastic-composite sheet welded to a flange running round the upper rim of the tray. In order to improve the environmental acceptability of the packaging while at the same time simplifying manufacture by conventional packaging machinery, the tray (42) is a thin-walled non-self-supporting flexible-sheet composite system (20) reinforced inside at least in the region of the tray walls, which preferably open out slightly towards the rim, either by a rigid cellulose-containing or wood-pulp-containing insert or by a piece of cardboard (52) coated on both sides with plastic and welded at least at discrete points (118) to the tray (42).
